Tuscaloosa, Ala. -- Freshman Stefanie Kenoyer posted a career-best round of 69 to grab second place behind Arkansas' Stacy Lewis, the number one ranked player in the country, and help Furman into fourth place on the opening day of the University of Alabama-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate Friday at the par-71 Northriver Golf Course.
Furman scored an opening round 299 to move into fourth against an 18-team tournament field that features 11 of the top 43 ranked teams in the country, including three top 10 teams. Arkansas carded a 295 to hold a two-stroke lead over Louisville and three-stroke advantage on third place Notre Dame.
Kenoyer notched two birdies and an eagle on the back nine to make the turn at two-under-par. She finished her round with a birdie at the par-four number nine to conclude the round just one stroke behind Lewis.
Junior Blair Lamb overcame mononucleosis and a double bogey at number three with birdies at nine and 12 to fire a first round 75. Freshman Jaclyn Hilea and sophomore Corrine Carr also contributed to the Lady Paladins' top five start with rounds of 76 and 79, respectively.
Second round action in the UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate is set for Saturday at 8 a.m.
Final round action is slated for Sunday morning.
