Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman women’s golf team posted a second round best 297 on Saturday to move into third place as Nova Southeastern maintained its lead at the 38th Lady Paladin Invitational at the par-72, 6,199-yard Furman University Golf Course.

Sandra Changkija (75-72=147) fired an even-par 72 to help Nova Southeastern (306-305=611), the defending Division II national champions, take sole possession of the lead after two rounds. Campbell (315-300=615) is four strokes back in second place while Furman (320-297=617) trails the sharks by six strokes after 36 holes. Stetson, East Tennessee State, East Carolina, UNC Greensboro, Kennesaw State, UNC Wilmington and Florida International round out the top 10.

Furman’s Stefanie Kenoyer (76-73=149), tied for second at five-over, ignited the Paladins’ second round rally playing the back nine at one-under 35 to card a 71. Freshman Laura Wearn (85-73=158) matched Kenoyer’s 73 and junior Jackie Hilea (80-75=155) and sophomore Liz Wendt (80-76=156) carded rounds of 75 and 76, respectively, to help the Paladins cut a 14-stroke first round deficit to six strokes.

Saturday’s second round, like Friday’s 18 holes, was played with wet course conditions and periods of rain throughout the day. With 18 holes remaining, 30 golfers are within nine strokes of the leader and seven teams are within 16 strokes of the tournament leading Sharks.

Sunday’s final round scheduled for a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Nova Southeastern, Campbell and Furman will play comprise the final five pairings and tee-off of holes 1-3.
