Hilea Helps Furman To 10th Place Finish At Cougar Classic

Sept. 11, 2007

Charleston, S.C. -- Freshman Jaclyn Hilea carded a final round two-under 70, equalling the best individual round of the day, to help Furman fire a nine-over 297 and claim 10th at the Cougar Classic at Yeaman's Hall on Tuesday.

Hilea, a native of Kaneohe, Hawai'i, notched three birdies and an eagle to record her best collegiate round and secure a share of 20th place. Junior Blair Lamb posted a 74 to place 27th while Stefanie Kenoyer slipped to 35th after a final round five-over par 77.

Furman's final round 297 marked the fifth best team score of the day as Notre Dame (287-292-291=870) claimed the team title over Tennessee (288-288-295=871) by one stroke. Notre Dame's Lisa Maunu (66-74-70=210) matched Hilea with a third round two-under par 70 to edge teammate So-Hyun Park (70-69-74=213) for individual honors.

The strong 20-team field at the Cougar Classic featured no fewer than 10 of the top 45 teams in the nation. Furman, which finished last season 41st in the GolfWeek Women's Collegiate Rankings, returns to action October 12-14 at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in Knoxville, Tenn.
