The Furman women's golf team posted a season opening round of 301 to share 14th place after the first round of the Cougar Classic at Yeaman's Hall in Charleston, S.C., Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Corrine Carr shot a two-over par 74 opening round, including an eagle on the par five 15th hole, to lead Furman and grab a share of 35th. Freshman Jaclyn Hilea rallied from an three-over par front nine to shoot even on the back to register a first collegiate round of 75.
Sophomore Blair Lamb and freshman Stefanie Kenoyer each opened the season with a four-over 76 while redshirt freshman Allison Micheletti rounded out the Furman team with a five-over 77.
Alabama and LSU took the first round lead shooting two-under par 286. Notre Dame's Lisa Maunu holds a one stroke lead after a first round 66.
The tournament field of 20 teams includes 10 of the top 45 ranked teams in the nation. Action will continue Monday morning with round two of the three round Cougar Classic.
