Women's Golf Fifth At Southern Conference Championship After Two Rounds

Hilton Head Island, S.C. -- Junior Jackie Hilea posted an even-par 72 on Monday as Furman dropped to fifth place after round two at the Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship at the par-72 Moss Creek Golf Club.

Furman (314-306=621) improved by eight strokes over its performance in round one, but the Paladins slipped into fifth place 20 strokes behind tournament leader College of Charleston (300-301=601). Chattanooga is in third place with UNC Greensboro holding fourth and Appalachian State in fourth.

Hilea (78-72=150) birdied six holes, three on the front nine and three on the back, to climb into a tie for seventh place following 36 holes. Freshman Alexa Rancourt (77-74=151) grabbed a share of ninth place after carding a two-over par 74 in round two.

Yue Xu (69-72=141) of Appalachian State upped her lead to four strokes with an even-par 72 on Monday. She leads second place Ainhoa Nogales (74-71=145) of the College of Charleston.

Final round action in the 54-hole tournament is set to begin on Tuesday morning with the winner gaining an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.
