Hilton Head Island, S.C. -- The Furman women’s golf team shot a 314 on Sunday afternoon to hold fourth place after one round at the Southern Conference Championship at the par-72 Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
Furman’s Stefanie Kenoyer, Jackie Hilea and Alexa Rancourt each shot five-over 77 to move into a tie for 11th place. Hilea, a junior from Kaneohe, Hawaii, paced the Paladins with four birdies, including three on the back nine. Kenoyer and Rancourt each recorded one birdie.
The College of Charleston shot 12-over 300 to open up a six-stroke lead on the field. UNC Greensboro and Chattanooga are tied for second at 18-over 306 with Furman 14 strokes off of the lead. Yue Xu of Appalachian State holds a four-stroke lead through 18 holes after carding a three-under 69. Charleston’s Leigh Whitaker is in second place after a first round 73 and four golfers are tied for third at two-over par.
Round two of the 54-hole tournament is set for Monday morning with final round action slated for Tuesday.
