Blair Lamb Captures Southern Conference Championship In Playoff

April 17, 2007

Mt. Pleasant, S.C. - Furman's Blair Lamb shot a final round one-under par 71 and posted par on the first two playoff holes to outlast Western Carolina's Kandy Carland to claim the Southern Conference individual title Tuesday at the Patriots Point Golf Links.  The Catamounts (312-292=604) edged Furman (314-294=608) and College of Charleston (307-301=608) for team honors.

Lamb (77-71=148) and Carland (77-71=148), who entered the final round of the 36-hole event tied for fourth, each posted one-under par rounds to edge first round leader Megan Miller (74-75=149) of Charleston and force a playoff.

Both golfers notched par on number one to begin the playoff, but Carland bogeyed number two and Lamb sank a par putt to claim individual medalist honors for the first time in her Furman career. The sophomore became Furman's 11th Southern Conference individual champion.

Freshman Corrine Carr (77-74=151) recorded a final round 74 to place seventh while sophomore Kathleen Ekey (79-73=152) carded a 73 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for ninth.  Lamb and Ekey both earned All-Southern Conference honors, it was announced on Tuesday by the league office.
