Women's Golf Competes With Top Teams at LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic

Baton Rouge, La. - The Furman's women's golf team is currently in a tie for 16th place after an opening-round 318 at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic at the University Club Golf Course. Seventh-ranked Vanderbilt is alone in first place with a plus-six 294, four strokes ahead of No. 2 Duke and No. 9 Tennessee.

Furman senior Theresa Paik led the Lady Paladins with a four-over par 76. She is in a tie for 28th place on the individual leader board. In a tie for 32nd place, sophomore Blair Lamb carded a 77 on the opening 18 holes. Freshman Corrine Carr posted an 82 and freshman Ashley Baker was right behind her with an 83.

Duke's Amanda Blumenherst is currently in first place after shooting the day's low round of 68. She is just one stroke ahead of the tournament's defending individual champion Jacqui Concolino of Vanderbilt.

The 21-team field features 16 teams ranked in the Golfstat Top 50, with four ranked in the top 10. The field is highlighted by Duke, the two-time defending national champions and last year's defending LSU/Cleveland Classic champion, No. 5 Auburn. The rest of the field and their rankings are: No. 7 Vanderbilt, No. 9 Tennessee, No. 17 Virginia, No. 20 Wake Forest, No. 21 North Carolina, No. 27 South Carolina, No. 29 LSU, No. 33 Alabama, No. 35 Louisville, No. 38 North Carolina State, No. 40 Augusta State, No. 41 Birmingham Southern, No. 45 College of Charleston, No. 49 Furman, Kentucky, Memphis, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and North Carolina Wilmington.

Round two of the 54-hole tournament will take place tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8 a.m.
