HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Four-time defending Southern Conference champion Furman (+22) extended its lead by one stroke Monday in the second round of the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship at the par-72, 5,980 yard Moss Creek Golf Club's South Course on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Just five strokes separate the top three teams. Seeking their 18th title, the 26th-ranked Paladins hold a three-stroke lead over Chattanooga (+25), who led the field with a 300 on Monday. Mercer (+27) is two strokes back of the Mocs in third, followed by ETSU (+31) in fourth, and UNCG (+42) in fifth place.
Furman has four players among the top 15, including junior Natalie Srinivasan (+4), who hails from Spartanburg, S.C. Srinivasan led the Paladins with a 74 on Monday to move into second place, while senior Haylee Harford (+4) is tied for third after carding a 77 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 17 in round two. Sophomore Madison Moosa (+7) is tied for eighth place after scoring a 76 with a birdie on No. 12 on Monday.
Senior Jacqueline Bendrick (+9) recorded a 75 with a birdie on No. 17 to tie for 15th, and freshman Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+10) is tied for 17th after adding a 77 with birdies on No. 9 and No. 13 in the tournament's second round.
The final round of the 54-hole tournament will begin Tuesday at 8 a.m. Furman will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 8:50 a.m. and will play in a group with Chattanooga and Mercer. The winner of the SoCon Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
