HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Defending Southern Conference champion Furman (+8) holds the team lead and senior Haylee Harford (-1) is tied for the individual leads following Sunday's first round of play at the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship at the par-72, 5,980 yard Moss Creek Golf Club's South Course on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Seeking their 18th title, the 26-ranked Paladins hold a two-stroke lead over Mercer (+10). Chattanooga (+13) is in third, followed by ETSU (+15) in fourth, and UNCG (+20) in fifth place.
Furman has four players among the top nine, including Harford, who recorded a team-high four birdies to finish the day with a one-under 71. She is tied for the individual lead with Chattanooga's Monica San Juan (-1) and Hee Ying Loy (-1) of ETSU.
Junior Natalie Srinivasan (+1) is tied for fifth after notching a one-over 73 with birdies on No. 11 and No. 16 on Sunday, while sophomore Madison Moosa (+3) enters Monday's second round in a tie for ninth after carding a 75 in round one.
Freshman Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+5) shot a 77 with a birdie on No. 11 on Sunday to tie for 15th, and senior Jacqueline Bendrick (+6) is tied for 20th after tallying a 78 with birdies on No. 7 and No. 9 in the tournament's first round.
Second round action of the 54-hole tournament is slated for 8 a.m. on Monday, with the final round scheduled for Tuesday. The winner of the SoCon Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. On Monday, the Paladins will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 9:40 a.m. and play in a group with Mercer and Chattanooga.
