Bendrick Ties For Eighth To Lead No. 20 Furman At PING/ASU Invitational

PHOENIX, ARIZ. -- Senior Jacqueline Bendrick (-3) fired a final round 68, tying for eighth to lead the 20th-ranked Furman women's golf team (+11) in the PING/ASU Invitational, which concluded Sunday at the par 72, 6,430 yard Papago Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz.

A native of Mercer Island, Wash., Bendrick birdied No. 7 and No. 9 to turn at even par, then added three additional birdies on the back for a team-high five birdies.  She finished four strokes back of individual medalists Bethan Wu (-7) of UCLA, Stephanie Lau (-7) of Northwestern, and top-ranked Andrea Lee (-7) of Stanford.

Senior Haylee Harford (+2) fired a two-under 70 with four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 6 and No. 7, to tie for 24th, and junior Natalie Srinivasan (+5) eagled the par-5 No. 9 and added a birdie on No. 14 for an even 72 on Sunday, tying for 32nd.  Freshman Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+8) recorded a 75 with a birdie on No. 10 in the final round to tie for 47th, and sophomore Madison Moosa (+10) tallied a 73 with birdies on No. 6 and No. 12, finishing in a tie for 52nd.

Junior Marra Burton (+29), who played as an individual, finished 85th after scoring an 81 with birdies on No. 14 and No. 18 on Sunday.

Top-ranked Southern Cal (-9) won the tournament by one stroke over No. 16 Arizona State (-4).  No.31 Washington (E) and No. 17 Northwestern (E) finished in a tie for third, followed by fourth-ranked Stanford (+1) in fifth. No. 21 Oklahoma (+5) took sixth place.  Furman (+10) finished seventh, followed by fifth-ranked UCLA (+13) in eighth, and No. 23 Oregon (+14) in ninth place.

"I was very pleased with our performance this week, especially the last round," said Furman head coach Jeff Hull. "This was a very strong West Coast field, so it was good to see that we can compete with the best teams in the country.  Jacqueline put together a solid top 10 finish, and everyone contributed to this successful event. We are ready for the post season to begin!"

Furman will defend its Southern Conference Championship at the league tournament in Hilton Head April 14-16.
