HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Natalie Srinivasan (+1) and Madison Moosa (+1) tied for 20th to lead the 20th-ranked Furman women's golf team (+7) to a tie for sixth place in the first round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the par 71, 6,160 yard Pete Dye Course of the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Srinivasan, a junior from Spartanburg, S.C., notched birdies on No. 12 and No. 17, while Moosa, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., added birdies on No. 11 and No. 13 as the Paladin duo finished the day at one-over par, four strokes behind leader Frida Kinhult of Florida State, who led the field with a 68 on Friday.
Senior Haylee Harford (+2) carded a 73 to tie for 28th heading into Saturday's second round, and sophomore Caitlin Cotterill (+3) recorded birdies on No. 3 and No. 15, tying for 39th with a 74 in the opening round. Senior Jacqueline Bendrick (+5) tied for 52nd after scoring a 76 in Friday's round.
Tenth-ranked South Carolina (-2) led the field with a 282 on Friday. No. 19 Florida State (E) is two strokes back in second, followed by No. 13 Wake Forest (+1) in third. Third-ranked Duke (+5) sits in fourth, followed by LSU (+6) in fifth. Furman (+7) is tied for 14th-ranked Virginia (+7) for sixth.
The 54-hole tournament continues beginning at 8:30 on Saturday. Furman will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 9:20 a.m. and will play in a group with Duke and LSU. Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome. Live tournament scoring will also be available via http://www.golfstat.com.
