PALOS VERDES ESTATES, CALIF. -- Senior Haylee Harford (+5) carded a 72 to tie for 17th Monday to lead the 26th-ranked Furman women's golf team (+20) in the second day of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at the par 71, 6,017 yard Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
Harford, a native of Leavittsburg, Ohio, began on No. 11 in the shotgun start and notched a birdie on No. 14 to turn at even par then added an additional birdie on No. 7 to finish the round with a one-over 72. She enters the final round seven strokes behind leader Andrea Lee (-2) of Stanford, who has a two-round total of 70-70=140.
Senior Jacqueline Bendrick (+8) is tied for 30th after adding a 77 with a team-high three birdies on Monday, and junior Natalie Srinivasan (+10) carded a 75 with a birdie on No. 15 to enter Tuesday's round tied for 40th. Sophomore Madison Moosa (+12) notched consecutive birdies on No. 11 and No. 12 to finish the day with a 75, tying for 56th, and sophomore Carly Burkhardt (+17) is tied for 75th after adding a 79 with a birdie on No. 7 on Monday.
Thirteenth-ranked Stanford (+6) surged into the lead on Monday, pacing the field by ten strokes with a 279. No. 12 UCLA (+12) is six strokes back in second, followed by second-ranked Texas (+18) in third. Top-ranked Southern Cal (+19) finished Monday's round in fourth place, followed by No. 14 Wake Forest (+24) in fifth. The Paladins (+35) are tied for tenth with third-ranked Florida (+35).
The 54-hole tournament concludes with an 8:30 a.m. PST shotgun start on Tuesday. Furman will tee off of holes No. 19 through 13 and will play in a group with Ohio State, third-ranked Florida, and No. 19 Washington. Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome.
