HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Senior Alice Chen (+1) is alone in seventh place, and the ninth-ranked Furman women's golf team moved up into fourth place following Saturday's second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the par 71, 6,160 yard Long Cove Club's Pete Dye Course in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Chen scored a team-high three birdies, including back-to-back birdies on No. 5 and No. 6, for a second-round 74 to finish the day four strokes behind LSU's Claudia De Antonio, who holds a one-stroke lead after putting together rounds of 67 and 72 in the tournament's first two days.
Sophomore Natalie Srinivasan (+5) also scored a 74 and was one of three Paladins to shoot a birdie on No. 6 on Saturday. She enters Sunday's final round tied for 20th. Junior Haylee Harford (+8) added a 74 in the second round, carding birdies on No. 6 and No. 15, to tie for 31st. Seniors Jacqueline Bendrick (+9) and Reona Hirai (+9) are tied for 38th after two rounds. Bendrick recorded a 77 with a birdie on No. 15, and Hirai added a 75 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 8.
Six of the nation's top 10 teams are competing in the tournament this weekend. Second-ranked Alabama (+9) continues to lead the field, while No. 13 Northwestern (+15) remained in second place after two rounds. Third-ranked Arkansas (+18) is in third, followed by the Paladins (+21). No. 28 Wake Forest (+22) complete the top five.
The 54-hole tournament will conclude on Sunday beginning at 8 a.m.. The Paladins will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 8:50 a.m. and will play in a group with Wake Forest and Duke.
