AUSTIN, Texas. -- The Furman women's golf team (+17) posted a 289, the low round of the day by nine strokes, to surge to a second-place finish Tuesday at the Betsy Rawls Invitational at the par 72, 6,492 yard University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas.

The Paladins placed three golfers among the top 24, including junior Haylee Harford (-1) who posted an even 72 with four birdies to finish in third place, five strokes behind individual medalist Sophia Schubert (-6) of Texas, who fired a 69-70-71=210, winning by four strokes.

Sophomore Natalie Srinivasan (E) tallied five birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 5 and No. 6, to pace Furman with a 71 on Tuesday and finish fourth.  Senior Reona Hirai (+7) eagled the par-5 No. 11 to tie for 24th with a final round  74, and senior Alice Chen (+12) scored a team-high six birdies with back-to-back birdies on No. 5 and No. 6 for an even 72, tying for 39th.  Senior Jacqueline Bendrick (+13) tied for 48th after birdieing No. 13 for a final-round 74.  Freshman Madison Moosa (+14), added two birdies to card an 80 on Tuesday and tie for 50th.

"This was huge day for our team," said Furman head coach Jeff Hull.  "To make a strong comeback by shooting the low round of the day by nine shots and finishing second was awesome.  I was so proud of the way everyone fought through tough conditions on a very challenging course.  This was a total team effort, and everyone should be very proud."

Host Texas (+2) built an insurmountable 13-stroke lead on Monday to take the win, and Furman, which moved up six places in the final round, finished second by one stroke over Arizona State (+18), the defending NCAA Champion.   Houston (+26) was fourth, followed by UNLV (+35).

Furman will compete at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., Oct. 27-29.
