SUNSET, S.C. -- Junior Alice Chen (-7) scored an even 72 Sunday to tie for second among individuals and help the eighth-ranked Furman (-8) women's golf team to a second-place finish at the Clemson Invitational at the par 72, 6,260 yard The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C.

Chen, who ranks 65th nationally, notched three birdies on Sunday to tie for second with 12th-ranked Maria Torres (-7) of Florida and Sophia Schubert (-7) of Texas and finish two strokes back of individual medalist Matilda Castren (-9) of Florida State, who ranks 19th nationally and put together a three-round total of 72-65-70=207.

No. 6 Florida State (-10) led the field with a 285 on Sunday to take a two-stroke win over the Paladins (-8).  Fifth-ranked Florida (-7) finished third, followed by No. 21 Texas (E).  Michigan State (+5) completed the top five.

"I am very proud of the way we played today," said Furman head coach Jeff Hull at the conclusion of the tournament.  "We were in it the whole round and just couldn't get any putts to fall.  We played very well, but just came up a little short.  This was a strong field on a tough course that will be good prep for regionals.  I was also very pleased with Alice's performance.  She played very well shooting -7 and finished second."

Furman will compete at The Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Ga., April 10-11.
