HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Three Paladins are tied for 36th to lead the sixth-ranked Furman women's golf team Friday following the opening round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the par 71, 6,160 yard Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
Senior Taylor Totland (+3), sophomore Haylee Harford (+3), and freshman Natalie Srinivasan (+3) all carded an opening round 74. Totland recorded consecutive birdies on No. 5 and No. 6, while Srinivasan paced the team with three birdies on Friday, and Harford added a birdie on No. 17. Junior Alice Chen (+4) scored a 75 in the opening round to tie for 44th, and junior Reona Hirai (+6) posted a 77 with a birdie on No. 3 to enter Saturday's round tied for 59th place.
Four players are tied for the individual lead after Friday's round. No. 33 Kristen Gillman (-3) and ninth-ranked Cheyenne Knight (-3), both of Alabama, 56th-ranked Sophia Zeeb (-3) of Arizona State, and Duke's Gurbani Singh (-3) all fired a 68 on Friday to pace the field.
Fifth-ranked Alabama (-2) holds a four-stroke lead over No. 18 Duke (+2). Tenth-ranked Arizona State (+4) is in third place, followed by No. 14 South Carolina (+5). No. 19 Baylor (+7) completes the top five. The Paladins (+13) are in 13th place entering Saturday's second round.
The 54-hole tournament will continue on Saturday, with teams teeing off of No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The tournament will conclude with an 8 a.m. round on Sunday. Live tournament scoring will also be available via www.golfstat.com.
