PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA. -- Senior Taylor Totland (-4) fired an opening round 68 then added a 72 in the second round to hold a share of the individual lead and help the seventh-ranked Furman women's golf team to the team lead Monday at the Central District Invitational hosted by Michigan State at the par 72, 6,265 yard St. Lucie Trail Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Totland, a native of Tinton Falls, N.J., played flawless golf with four birdies in the first round then added four additional birdies in round two to finish the day tied for the individual lead with Lauren Hartlage (-4) of Louisville, who carded a 70 in each round on Monday.
The duo is one stroke ahead of Furman junior Alice Chen (-3), who sits alone in third place after scoring four birdies for a two-under 70 in round one then carding a 71 with two birdies in Monday's afternoon round. Freshman Natalie Srinivasan (+1) enters Tuesday's final round in fourth place. Srinivasan fired a 70 with four birdies in the morning round and recorded a 75 with a birdie on No. 4 in the afternoon.
Junior Reona Hirai (+5) and sophomore Haylee Harford (+5) are tied for 19th following two rounds of play. Hirai shot a 78 with two birdies in round one then rebounded to card a 71 with four birdies in the afternoon. Harford scored a 74 and three birdies during the morning round and a 75 with three birdies in round two.
The Paladins (-5) hold a 14-stroke lead over 49th-ranked Louisville (+9). No. 44 Augusta (+20) sits in third, followed by 32nd-ranked North Carolina (+23). Memphis (+24) completes the top five.
The 54-hole tournament concludes on Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome. Live tournament scoring will also be available via www.birdiefire.com.
