Paladins Conclude Fall Season With Win At Palmetto Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Furman (+11) closed out the 2015 fall season Tuesday with a win at the Palmetto Intercollegiate at the par 72, 5,972 yards Turtle Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.  The victory marks the Paladins' second-straight win after taking the title at the Yale Intercollegiate. 

The Paladins posted a final-round 298 and held off a surge by second-place Chattanooga (+18) to capture the title.  Campbell was third (+20), while Augusta (+22) and Illinois (+23) completed the top five.  No. 23 Louisville (+25) finished sixth.

"It was a struggle out there today with wind and rain, but the girls got it done," said Furman head coach Kelley Hester, who is in her fourth year at the helm of the Paladin program.  "I am so proud of them for another big win and such a strong fall!"

Freshman Haylee Harford (+1) tied for third to lead the Paladins, notching a 78 with a birdie on No. 13 on Tuesday.  Senior Valentina Romero (+5) and junior Taylor Totland (+5) tied for 16th.  Totland carded a team-best 72 with a birdie on No. 2 in the final round, while Romero birdied No. 6 and No. 18 for a 75.  Sophomore Jacqueline Bendrick (+11) birdied the par-3 No. 4 to tally a 75 and tie for 38th, and sophomore Alice Chen (+15) led the Paladins with three birdies in the final round, scoring a 76 to place 61st.

Furman will open the 2016 spring season at the Florida State Match Up in Tallahassee, Fla., February 12-14.
