NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Furman (+10) posted a tournament-best 288 to extend its lead to eight strokes Saturday in the second round of the Yale Intercollegiate at the par 71, 6,008 yard The Course at Yale in New Haven, Conn.

Sophomore Alice Chen (-5) fired a 68 to conclude the round in a tie for the individual lead with Lauren Stephenson (-5) of Clemson.  Chen scored five birdies on Saturday, including back-to-back birdies on No. 6 and 7 and again on No. 15 and 16.

Freshman Haylee Harford (-1) made the turn at four-over then notched consecutive birdies on No. 12 and 13 and added an additional birdie on No. 17 to finish the round with a one-over 72.  Harford enters Sunday's round in fifth place.  Sophomore Reona Hirai (+6), who is playing as an individual, fired a second-round 68 with back-to-back birdies on No. 4 and 5 and again on No. 10 and 11 to tie Chen with five birdies on the day and is tied for eighth place overall.

Junior Taylor Totland (+7) shot an even 71 with one birdie on the front and three on the back, including consecutive birdies on No. 16 and 17, to finish the round in a tie for 13th.  Sophomore Jacqueline Bendrick (+13) birdied No. 4 and is tied for 40th after carding an 82 on Saturday, while senior Valentina Romero (+14) is tied for 45th after scoring a 77 with birdies on No. 13 and No. 17 in the second round.

The Paladins enter Sunday's final round with an eight-stroke lead over Clemson (+18).  Vanderbilt (+24) and Michigan (+24) are tied for third, while Harvard (+34) rounds out the top five.

"We had a another great team effort today," said Furman head coach Kelley Hester, who is in her fourth year at the helm of the Paladin program.  "We were 8-over at the turn and really rallied on the back side.  Alice was steady again today, and Haylee played the back nine at three-under.  It was good to see Taylor come back after a rough start yesterday.  Overall, I am really proud of the girls and how they hung in there today."

The 54-hole tournament concludes with a shotgun start Sunday at 9:30 a.m.  Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome.  Live tournament scoring will also be available via www.birdiefire.com.
