POOLER, GA. – Thirteen-time Southern Conference champion Furman (-3) posted a record-low 284 to maintain the team lead following Monday's second round of play at the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship at the par-72 6,050 yard Savannah Quarters Golf Club in Pooler, Ga.

Seeking their first title since 2009, the 26th-ranked Paladins shattered the previous low round of 291, set in 2006 by College of Charleston and matched in 2013 by both Furman and UNCG.  Furman holds a nine-stroke advantage over Chattanooga (+6) heading into Tuesday's final round, while Samford (+13) rounds out the top three.

Furman freshman Alice Chen (-4), who birdied the first five holes of the round and added an additional birdie on No. 11 to card a second-round 70, and 24th-ranked sophomore Taylor Totland (-4), who scored five birdies on the day for a second-round 69, are tied for the individual lead following two rounds of play.

Senior Valentina Romero (+2) fired a 70 on Monday with consecutive birdies on No. 3 and No. 4 to move into a tie for seventh place, while senior Laura DeMarco (+5) and freshman Reona Hirai (+5) are tied for 14th after each tallied a 75 in Monday's round.

"I am really proud of the girls and the way they got off to a great start today," said Furman head coach Kelley Hester, who is in her third year at the helm of the Paladin program.  "We were strong out of the blocks and steady all day.  All five players are in the top 14, and I feel really good headed into the final round.  Taylor and Alice were both in command all day, and Val bounced back after a bit of a slow start yesterday."

Final round action is slated for 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, and Furman will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 8:50 a.m.  The winner of the SoCon Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
