LAS VEGAS, NEV. -- Senior Aubrie Street (+6) carded a 76 to lead the Paladins in their final round of the 2013 fall season Tuesday at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at the par-72, 6,320 yard Stallion Mountain Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.
Street, who teed off of No. 13, eagled the par-5 No. 2 and registered birdies on 6 and 18 to finish the tournament in a tie for 40th place, 12 strokes behind individual medalist Sirene Blair of San Diego State, who fired a 67 on Tuesday for the win.
48th-ranked San Diego State (+3) shot a final-round 289 to surpass host UNLV (+5) by two strokes for the team victory. UCF (+5), ranked 23rd nationally, and Texas Tech (+5) tied UNLV, followed by Minnesota (+10), who rounded out the top five. The Paladins (+30) finished 16th.
"We hung in there all day but dropped some shots coming in that really cost us," said Furman head coach Kelley Hester. "The team had a few bright spots this fall. Taylor came in and immediately contributed, and Aubrie finished fairly well after failing to qualify early. However, we have a great deal to work on over the winter in order to reach our goals."
Furman freshman Taylor Totland (+7) also eagled No. 2 to tallied a 76 on Tuesday, finishing in a tie for 48th, while sophomore Valentina Romero (+8) birdied No. 15, placing in a tie for 51st place with a 78 in the tournament's final round.
Sophomore Stephanie Carlozzi (+9) registered three birdies on the day, including a birdie on her opening hole and back-to-back birdies on No. 3 and 4, to card a second-round 76. She finished the tournament tied for 58th. Junior Daffodil Sanchez (+35) placed 94th after shooting an 87 on Tuesday.
Furman will open the 2014 spring season Feb. 14-16 at the Florida State Match-Up in Tallahassee, Fla.
