Totland Finishes Tied For Sixth, Paladins Tie For Fifth At Lady Paladin Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Freshman Taylor Totland carded a par 72 on Sunday to lead the Furman women's golf team to a tie for fifth place at the 42nd Lady Paladin Invitational at the par-72, 6,266-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C. 

Wisconsin (+1) fired a tournament-record 281 on Sunday, breaking the previous single-round record of 283 set by Georgia in 2003, to win the Lady Paladin with a 54-hole score of 865, also a tournament record.  The Bulldogs won the 2003 tournament with a three-day score of 866.  Clemson (+3) finished second at 867, while GRU Augusta (+6) was third with a score of 870.

The Tigers' Ashlan Ramsey (-7) garnered individual medalist honors after shooting a 70 on Sunday for a 54-hole total of 209, breaking the former Lady Paladin tournament record of 210, set by Auburn's Celeste Troche in 2000.  Kennesaw State's Ines Lescudier shot a hole in one on the par three No. 14 on Sunday.

Totland (-1) finished two under on the back nine and posted five birdies on the day to tie for sixth with a three-round total of 215, while sophomore Valentina Romero (+8) registered two birdies in the final round to tie for 21st with a 54-hole total of 224.

Senior Aubrie Street (+10) recorded back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 to conclude the tournament tied for 25th with a score of 226.  Senior Ingunn Gunnarsdottir (+15) finished the tournament tied for 50th after shooting a 79 in Sunday's final round, and junior Laura DeMarco (+17) moved up to a tie for 56th place after notching a third-round 77 on Sunday.

"Overall, I am pleased with the direction our team is headed," said Furman head coach Kelley Hester.  "We certainly aren't quite where we would like to be, but we are showing positive signs.  I was really proud of our team effort this weekend, specifically with freshman Taylor Totland's sixth-place finish."

Furman will compete at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas, Oct. 13-15.
