Greenville, S.C. -- Furman senior Laura Wearn received an at-large bid to participate in the NCAA Women's Golf West Regional May 9-11, at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., it was announced on Monday evening.
The All-Southern Conference selection and highest ranked individual (No. 35 in the GolfStat Cup Standings) in the field will be making her third appearance in an NCAA Regional. The top eight teams in the regional's 24-team field and top two individuals not on a qualifying team at the NCAA West Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships May 21-24, at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
Wearn, a native of Charlotte, N.C, has posted a 73.32 stroke average over 28 rounds during the 2012-13 season and notched seven top-10 finishes in 10 tournaments. She posted second place finishes at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship, Lady Bulldog Individual Championship at the University of Georgia and at the Briar's Creek Invitational. Wearn fired rounds of 77-76-73 to finish 51st at last season's NCAA East Regional in State College, Pa.
Teams competing in the West Regional are Southern California, Arizona, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Stanford, Georgia, Baylor, Texas A&M, Pepperdine, LSU, Denver, South Carolina, Ohio State, Oregon, UNLV, California, Florida State, Miami, San Jose State, Harvard, Kent State, Northern Arizona, North Dakota State and Long Island. Jennifer Coleman (Colorado), Sammi Stevens (New Mexico), A Ram Choi (Portland State), Luciane Lee (UC Irvine) and Michelle Park (UC Irvine) will join Wearn in competing as individuals.
