Mesa, Ariz. – The Furman women's golf team fought hail and high winds to post the second lowest round of the day and capture a share of eighth place in the Clover Cup at the par-72, 6,209-yard Longbow Golf Club on Sunday.
Senior Liz Wendt (+16), who birdied three of her final five holes, fired a final round 71 to guide Furman to a 15-over 303 on a day that included rain, 20 M.P.H. winds and a delay for hail. Freshman Daffodil Sanchez (+9) registered an 11th place finish after carding a two-over 74 and junior Laura Wearn (+11) earned a share of 17th place.
The University of Colorado (-9) shot a nine-over 297 to cruise to a 31-stroke victory over second place Oklahoma (+22). Tulsa (+28), Texas Tech (+40) and Notre Dame (+41) rounded out the top five in a 12-team field that included five of the top 40 teams in the nation.
Jessica Wallace (-5) of Colorado claimed individual medalist honors finishing ahead of teammates Alex Stewart (-3) and Emily Talley (-1) who took second and third place, respectively.
Furman is back in action March 26-27, at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate in Stockbridge, Ga.
