Stanford, Calif. – Senior Liz Wendt carded a three-over 74 to grab a share of fifth pace and pace the Furman women's golf team to a share of eighth after round one of the Peg Barnard Invitational at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course on Saturday.
Wendt, a native of Houston, Texas, recorded birdies at No. 8 and No. 9 to forge a three-way tie for fifth place after the opening round of the 36-hole tournament. Christine Uhalde of Fresno State fired a one-under 70 to claim a one-stroke lead.
The California Golden Bears (+11) took a six-stroke lead with an opening round 295. Fresno State (+17) holds second place with Stanford (+19), Washington (+20) and San Jose State (+22) rounding out the top five. Furman is tied for eighth, 22 stroke behind the leaders, after a first round 317.
Final round action is slated to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. PT on Sunday.
