Evans, East Tennessee State Grab First Round Lead At Lady Paladin Invitational

Greenville, S.C. -- Sian Evans carded a three-over 75 to grab the first round lead and help East Tennessee State into first with an opening round 308 on Friday afternoon in the Lady Paladin Invitational at the par-72, 6,160-yard Furman University Golf Course.

Evans (+3) holds a one-stroke lead over Samford's Natalie Mitchell (+4) with 14 golfers tied for third place at 5-over 77 through 18 holes.  The Buccaneers lead second place Georgia State by six strokes with South Florida in third place just seven strokes off of the lead.

The host Furman Paladins struggled through cold and windy conditions on Friday to take seventh with a first round 320.  Junior Laura Wearn and sophomore Inga Gunnarsdottir paced the Paladins at seven-over 79 while senior Liz Wendt and freshman Daffodil Sanchez each carded an 81.

Second round action in the 54-hole tournament is set to get underway at 9 a.m. on Saturday.  Final round play for the 15-team field in slated for a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
