Greenville, N.C. -- Junior Laura Wearn (-3) posted a one-over par 73 to finish in a four-way tie for second place and help Furman to a share of eighth place on Tuesday in the final round of the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at the par-72 Greenville Country Club.
Wearn (71-69-73=213), a Charlotte, N.C., native, birdied two of her final five holes to pull into a tie for the lead, but Old Dominion's Samantha Morrell (-4) birdied her final hole to break a five-way tie and claim individual medalist honors. Wearn, who birdied four holes on Tuesday, shared second place with Laverry Kumar of UNC Wilmington, Amy Otteson of East Carolina and Juliet Vongphaumy of Maryland.
The Terps (+15) carded a three-over 291 on Tuesday to claim the tournament title and finish three strokes clear of second place Georgia State (+18) while host East Carolina (+23) placed third. UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington and East Tennessee State rounded out the top six finishers in the 20-team field. Yale placed seventh and Furman (+42), which shot 312 over the final 18 holes, shared eighth place with James Madison.
Senior Liz Wendt (+10) notched the second best finish for the Paladins claiming a share of 28th. She shot a final round 78.
Furman returns to action and caps its fall schedule October 28-30, when it hosts the annual Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Club.
