Greensboro, N.C. -- Furman's Alexa Rancourt carded a final round 77 to earn a share of third place and help the Paladins to a fifth place finish on Tuesday in the UNC Greensboro Starmount Fall Classic at the par-71 Starmount Country Club.
The Paladins (306-306-309=921) finished in a tie for fifth place with Georgia State at 69-over par, 20 strokes behind tournament champion Maryland. East Tennessee State (+56) placed second with UNC Greensboro (+65) in third and Campbell (+68) in fourth place in the 14-team field.
Rancourt (+10), who led after Sunday's opening round 71, recorded just a single birdie to go with seven bogeys over the final 18 holes. The junior finished in a three-way tie for third place with Maryland's Jessie Hollandsworth and James Madison's Nicole Sakamoto five strokes behind individual medalist Charlotte Lorentzen (+5) of Georgia State.
Sophomore Inga Gunnarsdottir and junior Laura Wearn led the Paladins in the final round as each posted a three-over 74. Gunnarsdottir recorded one birdie and shot even par on the front nine to fashion her low round of the tournament, while Wearn birdied five holes in final round action to secure a share of 14th place.
The Furman women's golf team returns to action at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C., October 10-11.
