Charleston, S.C. -- Senior Liz Wendt (+4) fired a one-under 71 on Monday morning to help Furman (301-302=603) maintain its hold on 13th place after two rounds in the Cougar Classic at the par-72 Yeamans Hall Club in Charleston, S.C.
The Houston, Texas, native carded six birdies on the day, including four on the front nine, as she moved from 70th place to a share of 38th after 36 holes of play in the season opening tournament. Teammate Laura Wearn (+2) birdied five holes in an even par round that moved her into a share of 28th place with 18 holes to play.
The University of North Carolina (-9) moved into the lead with a six-under 282 on Monday. The Tarheels lead Florida (-8) by one stroke while first round leader LSU is four strokes off of the lead in third place. North Carolina State os on fourth place with Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia in a four-way tie for fifth place.
Tennessee's Erica Popson (-9) used a second round 69 to maintain first place one stroke ahead of LSU golfer and Seneca, S.C., native Austin Ernst (-8).
Final round action in the 54-hole tournament is set for Tuesday morning.
