Valdosta, Ga. – Sophomore Laura Wearn carded a one-over 74 to grab a share of sixth place and help Furman into a tie for fourth place after the opening round of the Kinderlou Forest Challenge at the par-73 Kinderlou Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga, on Sunday.

The Paladins round of 14-over put them in a four-way tie for fourth with 12th-ranked Georgia, Florida State and Augusta State.  Coastal Carolina (+11) leads after the first round with Western Carolina (+12) in second place and Chattanooga (+13) in third.

Wearn, who started her round on the back nine, birdied three of her first five holes, including a pair of par fives, to pace the Paladins on Sunday.  The Charlotte, N.C., native is just two strokes off of the lead of Chattanooga's Emma de Groot (-2) and Florida State's Hannah Thomson (-2) after 18 holes.

Junior Liz Wendt, playing in her first tournament of the spring, posted a first round 76 to hold a share of 16th place while senior Stefanie Kenoyer carded a 77.

Round two in the 54-hole tournament is set for Monday morning with final round action set for Tuesday.
