Greenville, S.C. -- The Georgia State Panthers posted an opening round 302 to take a three-stroke lead after 18 holes of the 39th Lady Paladin Invitational on Friday at the par-72, 6,199-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C. Furman grabbed a share of fifth with a first round 310.
Charlotte Lorentzen and Jenny Haggblom each carded a one-over 73 to pace the Panthers and grab a piece of the individual lead along with defending tournament champion Sandra Changkija of Nova Southeastern. Georgia State leads second place Chattanooga by three strokes with Nova Southeastern (307) in third and Samford (308) in fourth. Furman and Longwood are tied for fifth place in the 17-team field.
Sophomore Alexa Rancourt led the Paladins in round one with a three-over 75. The Portland, Maine, native recorded a 37 on the front nine and 38 on the back to secure a share of seventh place. Laura Wearn shot a 77 and senior Jackie Hilea, who returned from injury to log her first competitive round of the fall, posted a six-over 78.
Round two, originally scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, has been moved back to 10 a.m. due to the threat of frost. Sunday's final round will get underway with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
