Knoxville, Tenn. – Junior Liz Wendt carded a one-under par 71 to help Furman (298-293=591) maintain its hold on seventh place with a second round 293 on Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Women's Championships at the par-72, 6,302-yard Holston Country Club.
One over par with five holes to play, Wendt (77-71=148) notched birdies at No. 14 and No. 17 to fire a 35 on the back nine. Senior Stefanie Kenoyer (73-73=146) and sophomore Alexa Rancourt (73-74=147) each posted a second round 73 to hold a share of 15th place and 22nd place, respectively, while sophomore Laura Wearn (74-76=150) recorded four birdies on her way to a four-over 76.
The host Tennessee Lady Vols (280-284=564) extended their lead to 20 strokes over second place TCU (293-291=584) with a four-under 284. Arkansas and Mississippi are tied for third place at 586 while Kent State and Notre Dame are tied for fifth place at 588. Furman's Saturday round was tied for third best on the day.
Erica Popson (67-69=136) of Tennessee shot 69 to hold a two-stroke advantage over Natalie Gleadall (70-68=138) of Mississippi and teammate Sara Monberg (68-70=138) through two rounds.
Final round play in the 15-team Mercedes-Benz Collegiate is set to get underway at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
