Hanahan, S.C. – Furman's Laura Wearn totaled seven birdies to fire a second round 69 and grab a share of the lead at four-under par on Monday in the Cougar Classic at the par-72, 6,210-yard Yeamans Hall Golf Club in Hanahan, S.C.
Wearn (71-69=140), a sophomore, birdied three holes on the front nine to shoot a two-under 34 and carded four birdies on the back nine to overcome a double bogey and shoot a one-under 35. The Charlotte, N.C., native enters Tuesday's final round in a tie with North Carolina's Courtney Gunter (69-71=140) at four-under. The Tarheel's Jackie Chang (72-69=141) is one stroke behind in third place after 36 holes.
Sophomore Alexa Rancourt posted a second round 75 and junior Stefanie Kenoyer posted a 76 to help Furman (304-297=601) climb from 14th place to 10th place with a nine-over 297 on Monday. North Carolina (285-285=570) continues to pace the field and stands nine strokes ahead of second place South Carolina (291-288=579). Mississippi and Oklahoma are tied for third entering the final round.
The tournament conlcudes on Tuesday morning with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:30.
