Furman Places 10 On SoCon Winter Academic All-Conference Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Ten Furman student-athletes were named to the Southern Conference 2008-09 Winter Academic All-Conference team announced by the league office today. A total of 160 student-athletes, representing all 12 Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team.

The 160 student-athletes, which participated in men's and women's basketball, wrestling and men's and women's indoor track and field, averaged a 3.54 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Seven women's basketball players, two men's indoor track and field athletes and one Furman men's basketball player made up the group of Paladin student-athletes.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be of at least sophomore standing, possess a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade point average entering the winter season and must have competed in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the recently-concluded campaign.

This is the seventh year that the Southern Conference has named an Academic All-Conference Team by season.
