Chattanooga Rallies to Defeat Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Alex Anderson led Chattanooga with 27 points in the Lady Mocs' 61-51 win over Furman in Southern Conference basketball action Monday night.

The Lady Paladins burst out to a 12-1 lead to start the game, from which it took Chattanooga almost 15 minutes to recover and tie the score at 21. From there, the Lady Mocs were able to gain a slight 31-29 advantage going into the break. Furman was led in the first half by freshman Kendra Berry, who added six points to help the Lady Paladins.

The Lady Mocs rallied in the second half, widening their lead to 50-39 at the ten-minute mark, and never trailing as they took the game 61-51.

Anderson led all players with 27 points, shooting 11-20 from the field. Erin Ogan led the team in rebounds with seven.

Furman was led by senior Chrissy Phelps, who notched 11 points and three assists. Sophomore Kali Holtfreter added 10 points, while Berry and junior Katie Johnson each contributed eight. Johnson also led the team in rebounds with eight.

With the win, the Lady Mocs open league play with a 1-0 record, and improve to 7-3 overall. Furman falls to 3-6 and 0-2 in the Southern Conference. The Lady Paladins head to the Sunshine state to take on Stetson in non-conference action on Dec. 20.
