Box Score

Davidson, N.C. - Katie Hamilton and Jessica Mitchell each scored 14 points and Davidson used a 29-14 run to end the game as the Wildcats defeated Furman 75-55 in the Lady Paladins' Southern Conference opener in Belk Arena on Friday night.

After trailing 40-28 at halftime, Furman used the first eight minutes of the second half to trim Davidson's lead to 46-41 as the Lady Paladins scored 12 straight, including back-to-back treys from Lee Stephens and Melissa Liebschwager to force a Wildcat timeout at 12:30.

Davidson responded with its final run, holding Furman without a field goal over the last 8:18 to notch the Wildcats second conference victory of the season.

Chrissy Phelps led Furman with 14 points and four assists, while Jessica Lange added nine points and a season-high four blocked shots, and Liebschwager contributed eight points. Katie Johnson led Furman on the boards with eight total rebounds.

Turnovers, again, hurt Furman as the Lady Paladins could not hold onto the ball against a pressure Wildcat defense. The Lady Paladins turned the ball over three straight times after cutting the lead to five points, and Furman's 22 turnovers accounted for 22 Davidson points.

Furman made a season-high 46.2 percent (6-13) from beyond the arc, including two each from Liebschwager and Phelps, but Furman managed just seven field goals in the second half and shot just 33.3 percent following the intermission.

With the win, Davidson improves to 9-2 overall, 2-0 in the Southern Conference. Furman falls to 4-5 on the season, 0-1 in league action. Furman returns to action on Monday as the Lady Paladins play host to Columbia College at 7:00 p.m. at Timmons Arena.
