CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Ericka Williams scored 19 points to power the College of Charleston to a 67-52 victory over visiting Furman in Southern Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Carolina First Arena.
The win gave the College of Charleston (16-6, 10-3 SoCon) a second consecutive season sweep of Furman (6-17, 4-9 SoCon), which was paced by Lakyn Ledford with 13 points and seven rebounds. The loss was the third straight and fifth in the last six games for the Paladins.
The Cougars also got 16 points from Jade Hughes and 10 from Deidra Jones, and a game high 14 rebounds from Brooke Kotcella, whose strong play helped CofC post a 41-30 advantage on the boards.
The College of Charleston led 32-26 at halftime and held a 51-45 advantage when Hughes drained a 3-pointer at the 5:55 mark to ignite a 14-1 run that secured the game's decision. Williams finished off the rally with a jump shot with 2:28 to go that gave the Cougars a 65-46 lead.
The College of Charleston shot 46.7 percent from the field (28x60) to Furman's 34.0 percent (17x50).
Furman entertains Appalachian State Monday evening in a 7:00 p.m. game.
