Box Score

CHARLESTON, S.C. - A struggling Furman offense put just 47 points on the board as the Lady Paladin basketball team lost its second straight game in a 57-47 decision at the College of Charleston's John Kresse Arena Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Paladins entered the game ranked second in the Southern Conference and with the league's second best scoring offense, but managed just 15 first half points to stake the Cougars to a 21-15 advantage at the break. In the first period, the Lady Paladins connected on 6-of-26 field goals for a 23.1% mark. In addition, Furman was 0-6 from three-point range - all factors that negated the Lady Paladin's slim advantage on the boards (22-20).

Though Furman more than doubled its offensive output in the second period, totaling 32 points on 35.7% (10-for-28) shooting from the field, the Cougars' Patrice Bryant poured in 15 of her 19 points for the game after the break, leading Charleston to its first win over the Lady Paladins since a one point decision on Dec. 28, 2000.

Three members of the Cougar squad scored in double figures: Bryant with 19, and Erika Smith and Marketta Talley with 10 each. Furman, meanwhile, was paced by Laney Harris' 13 points and nine rebounds, while Princess Wells claimed a team-best four steals. The Lady Paladins managed just five assists in the game, with Wells and Katie Roach each totaling two.

With the loss Furman falls to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in the Southern Conference. The Lady Paladins continue their road swing with a Jan. 17 game at Georgia Southern, slated for 5 p.m. in the Hanner Fieldhouse. C of C improves to 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the league, and will host Wofford on Monday.
