Furstenburg's 21 Points Pace Cougars to 56-40 Win Over Lady Paladins

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Jill Furstenburg scored 21 points, just one below her career-high, while Nikki Williams posted her second straight double-double to lead the College of Charleston women's basketball team to the 56-40 win over the Furman Paladins this afternoon at the John Kresse Arena.

The Cougars and Lady Paladins were close for the first 26 minutes of the game, with Charleston leading by two at the half.

With the score tied at 30-30 at the 14 minute mark in the second half, Charleston went on a 19-3 run and eventually won the game 56-40.

Charleston shot 42.3 percent for the game, and held Furman to 24.1. The Cougars out-rebounded the Paladins 45-29, including a 31-17 advantage in defensive boards.

The Lady Cougars were led by junior Jill Furstenburg's 21 points, while junior Nikki Williams added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Chrissy Phelps led the Lady Paladins with 13 points, followed by 11 from Kali Holtfreter. Susan Troutman paced the team in rebounds with six.

With the win, Charleston improves to 8-7 on the season and 4-1 in the Southern Conference, while Furman falls to 5-11 and 0-5 in league play.

The Lady Paladins will travel to Statesboro Monday to take on the Lady Eagles of Georgia Southern in a 7:00 game.
