Lee Stephens scored a career-high 27 points just days after setting a new career-best of 24 points to lead the Lady Paladins to a 71-56 win over Charleston Southern in non-conference action Tuesday.
Stephens scored 18 points in the first half alone, including shooting 4-4 from beyond the arc. The Lady Paladins controlled the first half, leading 39-31 heading into the break.
Furman came out strong in the second half, never allowing the Lady Bucs to tie the game and leading by as many as 18 en route to a 71-56 victory.
The Lady Bucs were led by junior Pam Tolbert's 16 points, while senior Natalie Caldwell added 11 and freshman Crystal Robinson notched 10.
Stephens led all players with 27 points, a season best for the team and new personal best for the sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio. Sophomore Kali Holtfreter added 12 points and junior Sarah Baker connected on four of seven shots from the field and three of four from the free throw line to contribute 12 total points to the winning effort.
Baker also led the team in rebounds with nine, while Stephens grabbed eight boards on the night, helping the Lady Paladins out-rebound the Lady Bucs 45 to 29.
With the win, the Lady Paladins improve to 5-10 on the season, while Charleston Southern falls to 3-12. Furman will hit the road this weekend, traveling to Charleston to take on the College of Charleston in a 2:00 game on Saturday.
