BOONE, North Carolina - Furman's women's basketball team forced 31 Appalachian State turnovers to run the Lady Paladin win streak to three with a 63-47 victory Saturday at the Holmes Convocation Center.

The Furman press forced 20 Appalachian State turnovers in the first half alone, helping the Lady Paladins take a 35-16 lead into the break. Both offenses got off to a slow start, and the game was knotted at 11 with 10:31 left in the half. In the next five minutes Furman outscored ASU 12-0 to hold a 23-11 lead with 5:26 to go. A jumper by Kiki Conyers at 4:41 snapped the Mountaineers' seven minute scoring drought, but Furman went inside and scored four field goals in the paint in the final 4:27 to take the 19 point advantage into the locker room.

Appalachian State held Furman to just 29.2% (7-of-24) shooting from the field in the second half and outrebounded the Lady Paladins 24-17, but the Mountaineers never got closer than 13, and Furman hit 13-of-14 second period free throws to win by 16.

Furman was led in the game by Jessia Lange and Princess Wells, who scored 12 each, while Katie Roach added 11. Wells also paced the team on the boards, claiming six rebounds, and dished off a team-best four assists, with five steals.

The Mountaineers were led by Kiki Conyer's 15 points. Danielle Edwards added 10, while Jaime Bennett claimed a team-high nine rebounds and dished off five assists.

"Our press did a good job setting the tempo and taking them out of their set offenses in the first half," said coach Sam Dixon. "They made some effective adjustments during halftime, but we played for 40 minutes and are very happy to get the win."

With the victory Furman improves to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the Southern Conference while Appalachian State falls to 6-7 overall and 3-3 in league play. The Lady Paladins are in action again on Thursday, Jan.13, with a 7 p.m. game against Davidson.
