GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's women's basketball team tips off the second half of its 2017-18 Southern Conference schedule with a pair of road games this week, taking on league front runner Mercer on Thursday and Samford on Saturday.

Tipoff for the Mercer contest is set for 5:00 p.m. at Hawkins Arena in Macon, Ga., and Saturday's game at Samford's Pete Hanna Center in Birmingham, Ala., is a 3:00 p.m. ET start (2:00 p.m. CT).  Links to ESPN3 video live streams and StatBroadcast live stats for both contests are available thru FurmanPaladins.com

Furman (13-9, 3-4 SoCon) heads into the Mercer game tied for fourth in the SoCon standings with Wofford and UNCG.

The Bears (20-2, 7-0 SoCon), who are riding a 17-game winning streak that includes a 97-86 win over North Carolina, have proven to be class of the league so far this season, dominating league opposition both at home and on the road.  A 73-59 triumph over Samford in Birmingham on Jan. 14 is the Bears' only SoCon triumph by less than 20 points.

Furman fell to Mercer, 86-64, in Greenville on Jan. 6, taking the brunt of a career high 40-point performance by junior guard Keke Calloway, who drained 12-of-18 3-pointers for the Bears.

The clash with Samford (10-12, 2-5 SoCon) offers Furman a chance for a second straight season sweep of the Bulldogs.  The Paladins, who claimed a 45-41 win in the season's first meeting in Greenville on Jan. 4, posted a 54-50 win in Birmingham last year and have won five of the last seven meetings.

Furman is paced in scoring (16.2 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg) by senior All-SoCon forward Cierra Carter.  Sophomore guard Le'Jzae Davidson is second in scoring (13.5 ppg), and freshman foward Celena Taborn has fashioned an impressive inaugural season, contributing 12.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while pacing the SoCon in field goal percentage (.617).

All told the Paladins' second leg of their SoCon schedule features four away games and three home contests.

This year's SoCon Tournament is scheduled for Mar. 1-5 in Asheville, N.C.
