BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Tierra Huntsman and Savannah Plentovich scored 20 points apiece and Gardner-Webb used a strong start and hot shooting from 3-point range to race past Furman, 71-57, in women's basketball action Monday night at Paul Porter Arena.

The win improved Gardner-Webb to 3-2 while Furman fell to 3-1 on the young campaign.

The Bulldogs, who entered the contest shooting just 23 percent from 3-point range, drained 9-of-13 shots (56.2%) from beyond the arc in cruising to the win, their first over the Paladins in four tries.

Cierra Carter led Furman with 20 points, and freshman Celena Taborn finished with 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and a block.

The Bulldogs connected on their first four 3-pointers to grab a 21-8 first quarter lead and were never seriously threatened thereafter.  Furman managed to get within 44-38 on a Taborn layup with 3:56 to go in the third quarter, but Gardner-Webb quickly answered with a 6-0 spurt to push its advantage to 50-38 on a jump shot by Alexus Hill, who finished with 17 points.

The Bulldogs shot 44.0 percent, knocking down 22-of-50 shots. The Paladins, meanwhile, never warmed up from the field, finishing at 26.3 percent (15x57).

Huntsman canned 10-of-14 free throws and claimed a team high nine rebounds for GWU while Plentovich canned 4-of-6 treys as part of her 20-point effort.

Furman plays host to Pfeiffer on Wednesday in a 6:00 p.m. game.
