GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Coming off a 65-60 win over Wofford last Saturday in Greenville, Furman's women's basketball squad will continue its final home stretch of the season Thursday when it welcomes Samford to Timmons Arena for a 7:00 p.m. Southern Conference contest.
Furman (13-13, 6-4 SoCon) topped Samford (10-16, 3-8 SoCon) in the season's first meeting on Jan. 21, posting a 54-50 triumph in Birmingham behind senior guard Whitney Bunn's 14-point performance. Bunn, however, won't be in uniform this time around after suffering a season ending leg injury on Feb. 2 against Western Carolina.
The Bulldogs snapped a four-game losing skid in their last outing by beating Western Carolina, 51-50, in Birmingham. Samford is paced in scoring by redshirt junior guard Hannah Nichols (13.5 ppg), who tallied a game-high 15 points in the first clash with Furman.
Head coach Jackie Carson's Paladins used a revamped lineup and strong play from a trio of performers to imrpove to 25-0 all-time against Wofford in Greenville. Junior forward Cierra Carter's 19-point, 11-rebound outing led the way, and she was followed by sophomore forward Kaitlyn Duncan, who registered career highs in minutes played (40), points (15) rebounds (11), and blocks (6) — with the six swats representing the second highest tally in program history. Freshman guard Le'Jzae Davidson, meanwhile, chipped in 14 points to round out Furman's double figure scoring effort versus the Terriers.
Junior guard Stephania Oramas also delivered solid play, contributing six points and a game high six assists.
Furman continues to pace the SoCon in field goal percentage defense (.368), and Carter ranks ninth in scoring (12.5 ppg) and third in rebounding (8.1 rpg). Davidson stands eighth in 3-point field goal percentage (.346).
Thursday's game will be broadcast via ESPN3, and Furman's audio stream featuring Bryant Lambert's call will be presented via Stretch Audio. Links to both broadcasts, as well as StatBroadcast live stats, are available through FurmanPaladins.com
