Furman Men's Tennis Signs Top Recruit for 2007-08

Greenville, S.C. - Furman University men's tennis coach Paul Scarpa recently announced the addition of prep standout Sawyer Duncan (Atlanta, Ga.) to the roster for the 2007-08 season. Duncan, a 6-2, 145-pound right-hander, comes to Furman after leading his Westminster tennis team to three consecutive AAA state championships as the number one singles player.

"We are very pleased and excited to have Sawyer sign with us," commented Scarpa, "He is an outstanding individual, student and impact player who has experience in a winning program."

Duncan, the fifth-ranked player in the state of Georgia and the 10th-ranked player in the South, posted a 50-4 career singles record at Westminster under head coach Wade Boggs. He was named the 2006 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Metro Atlanta Player of the Year. Duncan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Denis Duncan.

Furman, the defending Southern Conference Tournament champion and 2006 NCAA participant, has signed four other individuals ranked 12th or higher in the South over the past two years: Bo Ladyman (Memphis, Tenn.), Daniel Knause (Greenville, S.C.), Chris Rhyne (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Jordan Walters (Augusta, Ga.). The Paladins will open the 2007 season at Florida State on Saturday, January 27.
