Southern Conference Names 25 Furman Student-Athletes to Spring Academic All-Conference Team

Greenville, S.C. - Furman places 25 student-athletes on the TIAA-CREF Academic All-Southern Conference team for the 2007 spring season, the league announced today. The 25 student-athletes have a combined average GPA of 3.47.
In order to be selected, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and must have competed in at least half of their team's competitions during the spring season.
25 Furman student-athletes were honored from 7 different teams, with Men's Track and Field and Women's Softball leading the way with 5 honorees each. Women's Track and Field and Women's Tennis followed closely behind, with 4 student-athletes from each team being honored, while Men's Baseball contributed 3, and Men's Golf and Men's Tennis contributed 2 each. Women's Track and Field boasted the highest team GPA for the spring season with a 3.65 average.
This year marks the fourth year that the Southern Conference has named an All-Academic Team by season. The all-academic teams are supported by a grant from TIAA-CREF, the SoCon's Education Partner.
