Men's Singles Draw

Athens, Ga. - The NCAA announced the individual singles and doubles draws for the Division I Men's Tennis Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. Furman's Andy Juc will challenge top-seeded John Isner of Georgia on Wednesday, May 23 at 5:30.

Juc is the youngest Furman player to ever be selected to compete in the NCAA Singles Championships and the first Paladin since John Chesworth in 2002. A native of Chisinau, Moldova, Juc earned an overall record of 18-7 this season. He posted an 8-1 mark in the Southern Conference and was named to the all-conference first team. Juc has won his last six matches, with straight-set victories in both of his SoCon Tournament matches.

Juc earned automatic qualification into the singles championship as the lone SoCon player to rank in the ITA Top 125 for singles. He is the eighth Paladin to compete in the individual championships. The last Furman individual to win a singles match in the NCAA Tournament was Ned Caswell who advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1987 competition.

Georgia senior John Isner is the top-ranked player in the country, having led the Bulldogs to a 31-0 record heading into the National Championship match against Illinois tonight. The senior competed at the top singles and doubles spot for Georgia this season. Prior to the match against the Illini, Isner had posted a mark of 57-2 over his last 59 matches, holding a streak of 46 consecutive wins before a loss to Florida's top player in the regular season.
