Men's Tennis Makes Big Jump In National Rankings
March 7, 2007
Greenville, S.C. - The Furman men's tennis team jumped from No. 73 to No. 55 according to the latest FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings as administered by the ITA. In all the previous rankings since 2001, the highest the Paladins (5-7) had been ranked was 56 in March of 2002.
Several Paladins have also made their way into the individual ranks. Sophomore Andy Juc earned his first-ever ranking at No. 110 among singles players. Juc recently posted wins over No. 29 Kaden Hensel of Tennessee as well as Vanderbilt's Ryan Preston. He is currently 4-5 playing at the number one position.
Furman's number one doubles tandem of senior Brian Crook and sophomore Bo Ladyman was listed 49th in the ranks this week. The pair is 5-4 on the season and is the highest-ranked Southern Conference doubles team. The Citadel's combo of James Eason and Daniel Dossetor is the only other SoCon pair in the rankings, listed at 52.
The Paladins travel to No. 44 Georgia Tech on Friday, March 9 at 2:30 p.m. Furman opens conference play on Sunday, March 11 when it hosts No. 51 Elon at 2 p.m. Elon was the only SoCon foe to beat the Paladins last year as the two schools each finished 8-1 in league play.
