GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team is ranked #61 nationally in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll of the 2010 season, as released this week.
Furman posted a 22-8 record last season and won the 2009 Southern Conference regular season title for the second consecutive season. The Paladins then won the Southern Conference Tournament championship, the 14th in school history, to earn their fourth overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Head Coach Paul Scarpa, who is entering his 44th season at Furman, became the winningest men's tennis coach in NCAA Division I history last season and currently holds an overall mark of 835-513.
Furman will open the 2010 season on January 29 at the ITA National Indoor Championships in Gainesville, Fla.
